Random 5 Friday

Lonicera Hispidula

1. My husband built me a 20'x30' greenhouse and I don't have a green thumb. But the Jasmine and weeds in there grow well :)

2. I used to make my own soaps and bath salts. Lavender is my favorite scent to use in them.

3. I paid for a honeysuckle vine. I didn't know what it was because it had the scientific name on the tag. Go figure!

(Yes, that is a picture of it up there in all it's splendor. Quite beautiful but it's still Honeysuckle...and I paid for it.)

4. I ask a lot of questions, but apparently not the right ones.

5. My children are all musically talented, whether in voice or instrument. I am not. They get it from their dad.

I'm participating in Random 5 Friday -- where you share 5 random facts about you, your day, your pets, your kids, whatever!

Hop on over and join in the fun!

  1. Well, I've paid for several honeysuckles, so I'm right there with ya!

No musical talent on either side of my family tree.

I was big into making soap a couple of years ago, but haven't had the bug for some time. Still have pounds of it to use yet. :)

    1. I wish I could transplant the Jasmine to outside but it is so big now I fear it might kill it! Maybe one day I can call it The Jasmine Jungle and sell some :)

  3. that picture is beautiful! i have NO musical talent either...i think i'm tone deaf. when i was a kid, my grandpa and grandma had a bunch of honeysuckle. my grandpa taught me how to take the bottom off and suck the nectar out. it grows wild all over the place here and the other night at baseball practice, i caught my youngest two boys doing the same...although they were still too bitter! have a great weekend :)

    1. Thanks, Tanya! We used to do the same thing with the white Honeysuckle. Not sure if the pink works the same way. Maybe I could get one of my sons to try it out for me ;)

  4. I ask a lot of questions too, Anne. How do we learn without asking questions? The Hubby finds this a little annoying. I still ask a lot of questions, but use a better timing.

Good Luck with your greenhouse! Sounds like fun.

I am with you on the musical abilities.

  5. I ask a lot of questions, too! And sometimes I feel like I get weird looks for them! But that's how we learn, right?

My thumb is not very green either. I have to buy hearty plants. Though currently we don't have much at all since we live in an apartment. I do have a beautiful new guinea impatiens that I hope survives for a while! And I'm really hoping my tulip bulbs I planted in a pot will sprout next spring!

    1. Hey Cindy, New Guinea Impatiens are supposed to be more tolerant of the sun, too! I bet they're lovely. I planted tulips years ago and mine only came up once. I figure it must be the soil where I planted them because I get volunteer Daffodils and Irises everywhere.

  6. Awesome picture. I think it would be nice to have a green house, I'm getting tired of bending over to weed the flower beds. I could stand in the green house...hum...Happy Friday Friday 5

    1. Sandy, I enjoyed being in the greenhouse but it was a lot of work to keep things growing. It doesn't come naturally to me, like some people :)

  7. Lovely honeysuckle -- even if you paid for it! I love the idea of a green house -- weeds and all! I love lavender. Think you well go back and make your own salts/soaps??? Happy Friday 5 and have a wonderful weekend.

    1. Hey Snap, I gave all my soap making supplies to my daughter. If I ever decide to do it again I will start fresh. I definitely like making hand-milled soaps the best, using dried herbs and essential oils!

  8. Honeysuckle is lovely. It's out here in Oregon right now. Not in my yard though. I've had no success with it. Yours is beautiful.

Asking questions is one of my hobbies. :)

    1. Hi Mary, I don't so anything to mine. I planted it and left it alone all winter and it just burst forth this spring. It needs a B.I.G trellis!

  9. I couldn't tell at first that the flower in your stunning photo was honeysuckle! It's beautiful, even if you did pay for it. :-) We have lots of it where I live in Virginia. The smell of honeysuckle takes me back to childhood and playing tag outside in the summer evenings.

    1. Tina, It's funny but the pink doesn't have the aroma of the white! It's very subtle but the plant is gorgeous.

  11. Loved this post :) I can almost smell the honeysuckle! I have a flower that is white in my garden and it smells like honeysuckle - I'm not sure what it is though :) Have a great weekend!

    Hugs to you!

    1. Well, if it smells like honeysuckle...must be honeysuckle :) That's why I was surprised that this is honeysuckle because I had no idea it came in pink! I thought it was always white and I have plenty of that!

Hope you are doing well. Praying for you!

  12. I bought a honeysuckle vine 19 years ago and it's still living...even though we've tried to kill it several times and cut it down to the ground. I'M glad it's alive, but my hubby wanted it gone. He got tired of cutting it back. I love honeysuckle!

    1. It's one of my favorite scents. The plant can certainly become invasive. We have some of the white that needs cutting back drastically.
