Friendship

Life is better with friends.

Yes. Yes it is.

With the birds on their way south for the winter,
my feeder hasn't been a popular place lately.
This image was taken while the weather was still warm.
I miss all the activity of my bird friends and seeing so
many pretty colors flitting around outside the window.
Over the winter, we will still have cardinals, though.
I look forward to capturing their brilliance,
hopefully (!!!) against the snow.

What kind of birds do you have in the winter?

  1. Sweet shot!
I feed a little in the summer but have started putting out my winter feeders.
The cardinals against the snow or bare branches is a favorite attempt for me.
Along with them I'll have red-bellies, nuthatches, downys.....
    Lovely blog!

  4. I often read of cardinals in the Cat Mystery Books by Lilian Jackson Braun.
They do not live with us, I only saw them in pictures so far ...
We have in winter many hungry blackbirds, sparrows, robins, greenfinches, tits ... also firecrest, juniper bluebirds and other birds of forest come in flocks to the gardens.
Now at this time are the large flocks of crossbills - I hear they make noise in neighbors large Japanese firs ... But they move on, just like the cranes and snow geese high above us. Here in the Harz Mountains is a resting and collective space. They circle for hours.
I often stand down and hear them call, they see draw...

And various types of crows and magpies are coming in town.

  8. Love this shot. So serene. Male cardinals are stunning birds, with lovely songs. I delighted in their visits when I lived in Ohio.
