Random 5 Friday

Flowers... are a proud assertion that a ray of beauty outvalues all the utilities of the world.

Ralph Waldo Emerson

1. I love Black-eyed Susan's! The wildflower packet I used to sow my front flower bed this year is finally yielding some fruit, or should I say flowers. They don't seem to mind all the rain.

2. Speaking of rain, we have had at least 21 days straight of the stuff. How about you? Any rain lately?

3. Sometimes you just have to clean out the chicken coop and put in fresh sand even if it's raining. Yep. I did that yesterday. It wasn't fun but somebody had to do it. The chickens appreciate it though. At least, I say they do :)

4. There is nothing sweeter, nothing, than when my four year old grandson comes up to me, wraps his sweet little arms around my neck, puts his downy cheek against mine and softly whispers...I love you, Nonna.

5. I co-wrote an article with an author friend of mine for Book Fun Magazine. It was published in this month's issue.

You can participate in Random 5 Friday, hosted by the awesome Nancy Claeys, or just hop around and see what randomness is out there by clicking the image below :)

  1. I love black-eyed-susans also. Always have. And, yes...we are heartily sick of rain.

  2. Congrats on the article! Is there a link somewhere?
The black eyed Susans are appearing in blogland now and I'm enjoying all of the images. Yours are lovely Anne.

No rain here for awhile -- perhaps you could send some over. :)

  3. Congratulations on publication!!!
Thank you for the Name - black eyed susan . . there's a large bunch growing in a neighbors front yard that is so happy making - i didn't have a proper title for the - until now.

    Happy Friday!!

  4. Congrats on your article. I too love Black Eyed Susan's. I planted some years back, but they didn't do very well. I do have an over abundance though of Shasta Daisies. And yes...we too have had day after day after day of rain. We get some sun poking through, but generally it's been bout a 3 week period of rain every single day. Groan

  5. well how exciting to have something published, congrats! I've no grands but I can picture that moment. Your photo is beautiful, gosh that is a lot of rain. I really like your header..

  6. Congrats on the article publicaiton, Anne. We had some rain earlier in the week, very windy last night and this morning. I NEED to clean my chicken coop. I want the hubby to help me. Waiting .... waiting. Enjoy every moment with your grandson!

  7. Your black eyed susan is so pretty. Congrats on your article!

  8. Pretty Black Eyed Susan's! I apologize if you're from MD and know this but they're our state flower! I haven't seen too many this year though, strangely enough. We've had so much rain here lately, too! It seems like it's rained every day straight since the beginning of June. I know we've had a few days with no rain, but those are much less than the days we've had with rain. I suppose it's better than the drought we'd had the past few years!

  9. I've got to read that article! :) Congrats on getting published.

    Aww, your grandson is adorable.

  10. beautiful picture, i love black eyed susans too....congrats to number 5 and i love number 4...and as for the rain, see my post for the day lol .... have a great weekend :)

  11. Congratulations on the article! That's really cool.

I love black-eyed Susans, too--so sunny and happy looking. Yes, rain galore here in Virginia. It's hard to remember what long sunny days feel like anymore. :-)

I'm sure your chickens appreciated your efforts!

  12. Black eyed Susans are splendid! Vivid ans summery!

And i'm certain the chickens appreciate all your hard work!

  13. Love the flowers sounds like you have had more rain than we have in my part of the world and I thought the UK had a lot !!!
    Thanks for visiting me today....

  14. Congratulations on being published! Nothing better than hearing the grandkids say I love you. Mine are all grown up with the youngest two in their teens. Maybe I'll have great grandkids someday.

  15. Congrats to you!! that is so exciting. i love black eyed susans. they are so cheerful. ( :

  16. Blow that rain south! We need it. We have had plenty of thunder and lightning but no rain. When it does rain it does not thunder.

Congratulations on your article with your author friend. What fun!

  17. Nope no rain here...we're in the dry period of the summer though.
    Black-Eyed Susan's are a very cheery flower.

  18. Congratulations on the article! The flower is lovely, and I also love the quote.

We had a day of rain this week, which is so weird because it hardly ever rains in July in San Diego. People didn't know what to make of it. It just seemed wrong to tote an umbrella in the summer but then we got to work dripping wet. Back to sun now!

  19. Oh Anne, how exciting about your article! And what you shared about your grandson was so sweet and touching. Children are such a blessing. We finally had a nice rain last night. We have been without rain for weeks! So I am thanking our good Lord for the blessing of moisture :)

    Have a great weekend. Hugs!

  20. Love the wonderful macro flower shot ~ Beautiful and thanks for commenting ~ Happy Weekend to you ^_^

  21. I also love Black Eyed Susans! I just saw our first patch in bloom on our road this week.
Wow - 21 days straight!! We've had what seems like a very long streak of heat & humidity (for our parts.) Not a lot of rain, but enough. Mostly during nighttime showers or a quick thunderstorm that rolls by.
We used sawdust for our chickens.. my husband has a sawmill.. so the kids bag up the huge piles of sawdust. It's handy for my sister's horse stalls, too.
Congrats on being published! I'm with you on that greatest feeling in the world. Our youngest is 6 now.. he still hugs & offers sweet words like he did when he was four. It's the best feeling.

I am so delighted that you've taken time to come by and comment. Blessings for a joy-filled day!
