To {Texture} or Not

The sky is a gorgeous Carolina blue with a few puffy white clouds and the rusty barn roof stands out against it. Couple that with the golden hues of the hay bales and the slight green tones in the grass and it makes a pretty picture.

Once the photography bug hits, it's impossible to be satisfied with just a plain old photograph, though. Not that this one isn't pretty. It's just not edited. Maybe it doesn't need editing. I'm no expert, so I can't really say. Sometimes, the simplicity of the shot is enough.

But I am addicted to playing with textures now and every available (free) feature on Picmonkey. Soooo...for this week's Tuesday Muse at A Rural Journal, I am using the Desperado texture created by Nancy Claeys, and some of the cool features at PM to alter the above photo into the below photo :)

I'm undecided as to which one I like best. The top photo is appealing to me as it is full of light and life. But I like the edited version too. It has a nostalgic, vintage feel and that appeals to the historical lover in me. Plus, I think Nancy's texture adds some great dimension to the sky, almost making it roll, like in a storm.

What do you think? Just remember...I'm sensitive so be nice ;-)

Have a blessed day in the Lord!

    1. I am assuming you are from the Netherlands (or there about). I have a friend who lives in Middelharnis. I had to put this comment in the translator to find out it says:

yes if I had to choose then I would choose the first maybe old fashioned but yes it is so.

  10. As a writer of inspirational historical romances, the textured version of the photo appeals to me. I like the vintage feel the technique lends the image.

  11. I like both, too, & some pics are best unedited, but some just come to life & I believe this is one of those that came to life... I love the vintage feel of edited version. It's beautiful! Most usually, I don't care for bare trees, but these actually add to the scene & they're situated perfectly in the shot... plus, they go un-noticed in the original, but they really pop in the edited version! WoW!

Thanks a million for joining =)

  16. I'm mostly a 'realist' when it comes to most photos, although lately I've been playing with textures and layers. I'm still not convinced they improve photos, but they do give a different scene. Your editing is quite nice.

  17. I like them both! I am drawn to naturals, bright colors and light, but, I have started appreciating different ways of editing photos, I have even been using a couple textures lately. The edited version looks mysterious and even nostalgic - I like it a lot!

I'm prefer straight shots, though your textured photo is very nice too. It's all about artistic license and what you prefer. :-)
