My Review 4 STARS
Dodge has written a darling companion devotional based on one of my most favorite classic novels, Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. One of the sweetest things about this devotional is the lovely art work! Faith and family are integral in this devotional, making it one I recommend whether you are a fan of the classic novel or not.

Have you ever felt like the waves of life are crashing over you?

That first line is apropos in these scary times, is it not? Peace in the Storms of Life arrived on my doorstep at the perfect time! Wrapped in a lovely Wisteria watercolor style hardcover, each of these 125 short devotionals is practical, hopeful, and encouraging. I love how the author speaks as if she is sharing tidbits of wisdom over a shared meal or coffee/tea time. I’m reminded as I read them that in all things we can trust in the One who knows us and loves us better than anyone. If you’re stressed or worried or anxious, this would be a wonderful addition to your time spent studying God’s Word. There is a gentleness that comes across in each devotion that is soothing to the soul.

Review ~ The Scripture Memory Map for Women by Barbour

Published August 1, 2019
Barbour Publishing, Inc

What Does Scripture Memorization Look Like? . . .

Find out in The Scripture Memory Map for Women.

This unique scripture memory journal is an engaging and creative way for you to treasure the truths of God's Word in your heart. Each page features a lovely 2-color design that guides you to write out specific scripture memory goals, thoughts, and more. . .which then create a specific "map" for you to follow as you memorize God's Word. Each map includes a spot to record the date, so you can look back through your journal and see how God's Word has been ingrained into your daily life. The Scripture Memory Map for Women will not only encourage you to become more familiar with God's Word. . .it will also help you build a healthy spiritual habit of Bible memorization for life!

My Review
5 STARS!!!

I wasn’t sure what to expect with this creative journal but I love it! It’s perfect for ‘mapping out’ whichever verse I want to memorize while prompting deeper thought as to why the particular verse is relevant in my life right now. This is a great way to meditate on a verse. I find the prompt “Knowing this verse will be helpful when” really causes me to be honest with myself because I have to write it down. Seeing my answer in print makes a huge difference for me. Add to that the spiral binding and pretty illustrations and it’s a winner!

I was provided a review copy from the publisher with no expectation of a review.

My Review
5 STARS!!!

Cards of Kindness is a lovely devotional and sharing book for girls! It’s durable and can be carried in a purse or backpack so it’s always on hand to read encouraging words and share with others. Each perforated card has a short devotional, a Scripture verse, and on the backside whimsical illustrations with positive and uplifting thoughts to be pondered. I highly recommend Cards of Kindness for girls of all ages! :-)

I randomly opened the book and the page headline read
When You Need to Forgive. It’s about a friend hurting your feelings and maybe you’re angry or you’re holding on to the hurt. It talks about an opportunity to show Jesus to this friend. I was a little stunned as I recently was pretty upset about something and yes, I was feeling a good deal of anger toward a friend. They didn't know it but I did. I knew it was wrong to feel angry and had already asked the Lord to forgive me but how awesome was it for me to find further encouragement and confirmation in the pages of this sweet little book?!

Review ~ A Cloud by Day, a Fire by Night: Finding and Following God's Will for You by A.W. Tozer, James L Snyder (Editor)

Paperback176 pages
Published March 5th 2019 by Bethany House Publishers

How can I know God's will for me, personally? It's a question that haunts us all at times--maybe when we're looking for the right job, thinking about moving to a new city, or deciding whether or not to get married. At every stage we have difficult decisions to make, and we long for God's direction and his warm reassurance that we're heading the right way.

A Cloud by Day, a Fire by Night
captures Tozer's teaching on the will of God taken from sermons he preached just before he left his successful church in Chicago. Tozer was no stranger to facing difficult decisions, and his wisdom and biblical insight will help guide you in decisions of your own. The title comes from the story of God leading his people out of Egypt into the promised land. In the same way, let this book help reveal where he is leading and reassure you that he will be by your side every step of the way.

5 STARS!!!

Don’t we all, at some time or another, wrestle with the question “What is God’s will for my life?” I know I sure seem to ponder this question often but I always find any works from Tozer to be helpful. He was a sincere, godly man who sought the Lord’s will in all aspects of his life. Through 23 sermon excerpts compiled by James Snyder, A Cloud by Day, A Fire by Night encourages Believer’s to dig deep into the Word of God, knowing and understanding that God is always there, just as he was during the Exodus from Egypt, guiding His people day and night, never leaving them or forsaking them. Until we reach our heavenly home, we can know God’s will for us by knowing Him and His Word.

I used this book as a daily devotional since it has the structure of one. The hymns added even more depth to Tozer’s teaching. I'll be looking to buy a print copy because this is one that I find myself wanting to underline and write notes in the margins. It can be used as a companion to Bible journaling, as well.

I was provided an electronic copy of the book through Netgalley and the publisher. No review was required. No compensation was received.

My Review
4 STARS!!!

What I enjoy best about this devotional are the prayers. I find myself extremely moved by them as they are quite similar to ones I have penned in my own prayer journal. The bonus is the coloring sheet to go along with them. You will find the pictures are pretty and feminine and enjoyable to color as you ponder the prayers and perhaps even lift some of your own up to our redemptive Lord of hosts.

As always, devotionals are not meant to take the place of daily Bible study but to enhance what you are already doing. I am inclined to believe this particular devotional would make a great gift for someone who is struggling with their prayer life, or even questions how to pray. A non-believer would benefit by seeing the simplicity and normalcy of prayer. No fancy words. No difficult format. Just an honest heart speaking to God with respect and love.

I received a digital copy of the book from the publisher through Netgalley. I was not required to write a review. No compensation has been received.

hero - a person noted for courageous acts or nobility of character

My Big Book of Bible Heroes Devotional is colorful and easy-to-read, focusing on 50 Bible characters and something heroic about their lives. The format is nicely laid out with a Scripture reference, devotion, and a short prayer followed by five questions to encourage individual introspection.

I highly recommend that parents guide their children through this devotional, making sure that the Scripture associated with the heroes’ story is read. It is of chief importance to gleaning the most spiritual content from each one and gives ample opportunity to expound on God’s Word, answer questions, and pray with your child.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Barbour Publishing and was under no obligation to post a review. No compensation has been received.

If you would like my review copy, please leave a comment telling me your favorite Bible 'hero' and why you admire them, along with your email address in a non-spam format (jane at doe dot com). Review ~ Picturing Heaven 40 Hope-Filled Devotions with Coloring Pages by Randy Alcorn

Revelation 21:21-27

I did not see a temple in the city, because the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp. The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their splendor into it. On no day will its gates ever be shut, for there will be no night there. The glory and honor of the nations will be brought into it. Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life.

I was impatient to receive this coloring devotional in the mail. Originally, I thought I would dive right into the coloring but that didn't happen. I was so caught up in the beauty of the writing that before I knew it, I had read almost half the book without touching a marker or colored pencil! The selected Scriptures, and the thoughts from Randy Alcorn, mesmerized me and filled me with longing for my heavenly home!

I'm so excited thinking about the New Heaven and New Earth and all that it entails! I truly hadn't spent a lot of time thinking on it before, just passably knowing it would one day happen, but now I am eagerly anticipating the beauty and majesty. Oh, how sweet it will be to stroll down streets of gold with my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! My desire to learn more about my eternal home has been stirred.

I highly recommend this lovely offering of 40 hope-filled devotionals enhanced with intricate and graceful illustrations to captivate creatives of all types. Thank you Tyndale Publishers for sending me a copy for review purposes. No compensation has been received.

Evenings with Tozer, Daily Devotional Readings , A.W. Tozer, compiled by Gerald B Smith

Moody Publishers / 2015 / Paperback

This volume of 366 selected and edited daily readings from Dr. Tozer's books, editorials, and sermons is published for the spiritual help it may consistently bring to "God's good, plain people," who, as Dr. Tozer himself pointed out, "are a benediction wherever they are found!" Previously published as Renewed Day by Day.

My Review

Ecclesiastes 1:9 (KJV)
The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.

Tozer’s writings are as relevant today as they were decades ago when he wrote them. Taken from books and sermons and other writings of his, these 366 Devotional Readings are meant to be a complement to personal Bible study time and I have to say they are thought provoking!

In one of the readings, Tozer speaks of our devotional life being crowded out by busyness and modern technologies. Sound familiar? He was referring to radio and television but I can only imagine how he would feel with the distractions of tablets, phones, computers, and hand held games that we have in the 21st century. Rarely do I see families eating at a table in a restaurant without one or all of them staring at their individual electronic devices while silence reigns between them. I am guilty of this myself!

I have been re-energized by this devotional. My copy already has many passages highlighted. Tozer was a studied man, devoted to prayer, and a highly respected ‘modern day’ theologian for his time. I highly recommend adding Evenings with Tozer to your daily repertoire of study materials.

I received a complimentary copy from Moody Publishers in exchange for a review. I was not required to write a positive review, only my opinion of the book. No compensation has been received.
