Reviews ~ Love on the Range and Love's True Home by Rebecca Nightsong

Purchase link here FREE on Kindle

A plucky city girl. A tough cowboy. Romance in cowboy country.

When a crisis cripples the ranch, stern cowboy Jett Maddox is suddenly promoted to foreman. Just in time for the fall cattle drive. No sweat. Except for the new spitfire cook who is way too soft for wild country.

City-girl Marlee Donovan knows failure. She’s already on her second career, and her family is sure she’ll fail again. But plucky Marlee packs up her chef’s knives and heads west for a cook’s job on a ranch anyway. She’s ready to prove herself.

As Marlee struggles with the hardships of life in the west, Jett finds himself falling for her. And Marlee is drawn to the unexpected soft side of the gruff cowboy. But when tragedy at the ranch escalates, a difficult decision must be made…and Marlee’s stubborn streak could cost her everything.

Love on the Range is a prequel to the Looking Glass Lake series of contemporary Christian romance. If you like sweet and clean love stories with quirky characters that get you laughing, then you’ll love Rebecca Nightsong’s world of imperfect people who dare to put their faith and love in action.

If you like books by Janet Tronstad, Brenda Minton, and Lucy McConnell, then you'll love this touching story and its quaint little town.

My Thoughts

This is my first story from Nightsong. I enjoyed the setting and characters. Jett and Marlee sizzle like bacon on a hot griddle, meaning they have chemistry from the get-go and it's cleanly done! Love on the Range is a sweet short story, just enough to whet my appetite for more from this author!

I was given a copy of this story in electronic form from the author. No review was required. No compensation received.

And here's the more...

Secrets. Redemption. Love’s second-chance.

Hard-driving real-estate developer Lauren Rolphe returns to her hometown of Looking Glass Lake, ready to revitalize the area and receive a hero’s welcome for her troubles.

Practical-joker Matthew Paycoach is the town’s most loyal and influential citizen…and Looking Glass Lake's most charming cowboy. But even his easy-going smile can’t cover the pain Lauren caused when she dumped him and left town without a goodbye nine years ago.

As they war over the town’s future, Looking Glass Lake’s most notorious matchmakers jump into the fray. Matt quickly loses the battle to protect his heart, and Lauren is overwhelmed by sweet memories and longings she has tried so desperately to forget.

But when a secret surfaces and the past comes back to haunt them, Matt and Lauren must learn how to let go and trust God…or lose love’s true home forever.

Love’s True Home is Book 1 in the Looking Glass Lake series of contemporary Christian romance. If you like sweet and clean love stories with quirky characters that get you laughing, then you’ll love Rebecca Nightsong’s world of imperfect people who dare to put their faith and love in action.

My Thoughts

Love's True Home is a great contemporary western. It reminds me of Mitford, only in the west. If you're a Jan Karon fan, you'll know what I mean. If not, then you're in for a treat. You'll find a community of family and friends that you'll long to sit down with and have a long chat over coffee and pie. There's love, acceptance, and forgiveness found among the banks of Looking Glass Lake. Have your tissue handy because you might even shed a few tears. I know I did. Nightsong has created a beautiful cast of characters that I look forward to seeing more of.

It's finally turned cold here in coastal VA.  I miss the warm temps but it makes for a nice cozy curl up by the fireplace with a good book. With that in mind, I thought I'd pass along these Kindle Freebies in case you didn't know about them. They are a mix of historical and contemporary, new and not-so-new. I haven't read all of them but I have heard good things about them. :-)

Giver of Wonders by Roseanna White

Now Available from author Roseanna White!!!

  Giver of Wonders

A miracle once saved her life ~ will another give her a future?

Cyprus was little more than a child when a fall left her paralyzed...and when the boy known as the wonder-worker healed her. Ever since, she has wondered why the Lord spared her, what he has in store for her. But her pagan father thinks she was spared solely so she could be introduced to the wealthy wonder-worker, Nikolaos.
Nikolaos has never questioned that his call in life is to dedicate himself to the church and to God. Never, that is, until he and his cousin Petros meet the compelling Cyprus Visibullis. For years he struggles with the feelings she inspires...and with the sure knowledge that Petros loves her too.
Petros knows he will never be good enough for Cyprus's father to consider him as a match for his favorite daughter not as long as Nikolaos is there. But when tragedy strikes the Visibullis family, he will do anything to save his beloved. Unfortunately, his beloved is determined to do anything to save her sisters ~ even at the cost of herself.
As the festival of lights bathes their Greek city in beauty, Cyprus, Petros, and Nikolaos celebrate the miracle of their Savior s birth together one last time. And in remembrance of their Lord's greatest gift, one of them will make the ultimate sacrifice for the others...and a centuries-long tradition will be born.

Perfect for the Christmas season, White’s latest is a story that begs to become a tradition. The setting comes alive in sights, sounds and smells, but it’s the people in this book that make it so memorable. Despite the general solemnity to the plot, vivid characters and their strong and unswerving faith frame the tale in life and warmth and love. This story of love and faith belongs on every holiday reading list, it’s a beautifully crafted reminder of the true purpose of giving. ~ RT Book Reviews, 4.5 Star Top Pick

Rebecca Reviews ~ Fatal Frost (Defenders of Justice, 1) by Nancy Mehl

Paperback Edition, 304 pages
Published November 1st 2016 by Bethany House Publishers

Mercy Brennan followed in her father's footsteps in a law enforcement career, but she has no interest in any other connection to him. A U.S. Marshal in St. Louis, Missouri, she's assigned to a joint task force with the St. Louis PD that puts her back into contact with her father and in the sights of St. Louis's most powerful gang.

When the gang has reason to believe Mercy has possession of some highly sensitive and incriminating information, her boss assigns Mark St. Laurent--a Deputy U.S. Marshal and Mercy's ex-boyfriend--to get her out of town until they can guarantee her safety.

Initially unaware of the danger she's in and uncomfortable working with Mark, Mercy's frustration escalates when she discovers the extent her boss and Mark have been keeping her in the dark. It isn't until a freak ice storm hits, stranding them at a remote location and out of contact with the district office, that the full severity of their situation becomes clear. As the storm worsens, the forces of nature combine with a deadly enemy closing in to put their lives at imminent risk. Can they survive long enough for help to arrive--if help is even coming at all?

Rebecca's Review
3 STARS

"I know you won't believe this, . . . . . .but I've loved you every day since you were born, even though I've done a terrible job of showing it."

Those were some of the last words that U. S. Marshall Mercy Brennan every heard her father utter, just before he was brutally murdered in the crosshairs of gang warfare. Did he know he was going to die and thus attempted to make amends for his years of silence and desertion? Mercy can only wonder. Abruptly assigned to a special task force following her father's death, Mercy also has to wonder why one of her partners is a man she tried to push away when he became too close.

Getting caught in an horrific ice storm while traveling with his team to a remote location has Deputy U. S. Marshall Mark St. Laurent a little more than worried. He feels sincere guilt over the fact that Mercy doesn't know the entirety of their mission, how her father's death has implicated her in criminal duplicity; but regardless of her involvement or not, Mercy is in extreme danger and Mark is determined to protect her. Arriving at the designated farm property, the weather turns out to be just one of many obstacles in apprehending the members of a dangerous drug cartel, whose tentacles reach deep into nearly every level of local government and law enforcement.

Enjoy this fast paced first installment in Nancy Mehl's "Defenders of Justice" series, complete with undercover heroes and traitors, tempered by inspiration and romance!

I received a copy of this book from the publisher. The opinions are entirely my own.

Rebecca is a graduate of Bryan College with a degree in Christian Education and is currently serving at the First Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church in Gastonia, North Carolina as the Director of Children's Ministry. With nearly 28 years of experience in her field, she has had many opportunities to use her love of reading and writing in creative ways across the generations. A wife, mother of four "nearly" grown children, and grandmother to four beautiful grandchildren, Rebecca has been able to return to her love of reading and more recently reviewing, with a renewed passion for the "beauty of story".

9th Tea Cup and Mug Exchange Reveal

“I cannot even imagine where I would be today were it not for that handful of friends who have given me a heart full of joy. Let’s face it, friends make life a lot more fun.” – Chuck Swindoll

On arrival of my box, I was so excited to see what was inside! Kim blogs over at Wisdom with Needle and Thread, and gifted me with a gorgeous infuser mug along with an entire box of my favorite tea, some pretty stickers for my scrapbooking/journaling, and a sweet card tucked inside a lovely vellum envelope!!!

I adore the delicate floral pattern in soft blues and greens with sweet pops of yellow and orange on my mug. It's rimmed in gold too. I love the fact that it is an infuser mug! I have never had one of these. As soon as I saw it, I immediately washed it up and made a cup of my favorite tea, Plantation Mint!

Thank you, Kim, for the lovely gifts! I use my tea mug often and love it!!!

I sent my package to Rainey, who is also a blogger over at Flower Lady's Musings and just happens to live about an hour from my sister! We've exchanged several emails. Rainey is SUPER at correspondence and I have loved learning more about her life in S FL. I have gotten interrupted every time I sit down to write Rainey and end up sending out a fairly quick and short note. It drives me crazy! I'm so sorry about that Rainey! Please don't give up on me. I have truly enjoyed getting to know you and sincerely hope we get to meet one day.
