The only way to have friends is to be one.
Ralph Waldo Emerson
The great thing about having a long time friend is discovering something new after knowing each other for almost 15 years. My friend Pat and I did just that this week. While I was over at her home for some crafty play time, I was admiring a set of lovely tea cups in one of several cabinets that adorn her dining room. She was telling me a little of the history of the cups and I mentioned that I collect tea cups and have been in involved in a couple of tea cup exchanges online. Well, she immediately took this gorgeous cup out of the cabinet and presented it to me. I told her I couldn't possibly take the cup but she insisted. My heart was, and still is, overwhelmed with her generosity. You see, this tea cup and saucer are part of a set that belonged to her husband's grandmother and was made in Occupied Japan (1945-1952) after WWII.
Any advice on how to go about identifying it? Does anyone recognize it?

And now that I have shared my love of collecting tea cups with Pat, and my excitement about the upcoming tea cup exchange being hosted by Stephanie at The Enchanting Rose, I think she is going to sign up to participate in the exchange!
If you're interested, just click on the graphic and it will take you straight to Stephanie's where you can read about how to participate, too. It's a great way to meet new people and make new friends. And this time it is open internationally!
What a gorgeous teacup! What a special friend and gift! Thanks for linking to Tuesday Cuppa Tea!

Hi Ruth, Thanks so much for hosting! I still need to get around and visit some of the lovely tea settings.
DeleteHi: Love the tea cup. It looks like a Noritake. I going over to join the tea cup exchange, thanks for the heads up. Blessings, Martha
ReplyDeleteHi Martha! I thought it might be Noritake as well but haven't found it yet. I'm SO excited that you are joining the exchange!!! Have a blessed day, my friend.
DeleteHello Anne,
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely thing for your friend to do! It's a lovely teacup. Thank you for sharing it with us and coming to tea. Happy Valentine's Day!
Hey Sandi, I agree...it was a lovely thing that my friend did. I'm looking forward to visiting some of the other tea posts. I'm just way behind this week :) Blessings for a happy weekend!
DeleteYou might be able to find out more on EBay. I have a collection that got too big and decided to try and sell a few.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the idea, Andrea! Collecting things can definitely cause space issues :) Have a great day!
DeleteWhat a touching article, Anne! I know exactly how to identify the pattern! Go to the Replacements Ltd. website, and contact them, telling them that you'd like them to identify a china pattern. They'll ask you to send the photo of the tea cup along with any information that's underneath the cup and/or saucer. This beautiful cup and saucer are not only exquisitely beautiful, but a priceless treasure from your dear friend!
ReplyDeleteHey Cynthia! I will sure look into that. Thank you so much for taking time to come by and comment. I appreciate it. I am blessed to have some dear friends. {{hugs}}
DeleteHello Anne,
ReplyDeleteYour tea cup is lovely! What a kind friend to immediately gift you the cup! Wow! Your friendship is a treasure. I am sure you delight her too. I see above Cynthia has already told you about Replacements. That is a good place to start.
Happy Saturday!
Terri
