Look what came this week...
She’s a beautiful young widow. He’s a charming Charlestonian with a taste for adventure. Both -need a place to call home.
For Carrie Daly, life seems to consist mostly of mourning and ashes. Widowed when her young husband died at the battle of Shiloh, Carrie has spent the intervening years living quietly on her family’s farm with Henry, her older brother. But then Henry marries Mary Stanhope, a difficult widow with two rowdy sons in tow. Feeling that there is no longer a place for her on the farm, Carrie moves to the genteel but shabby Verandah Ladies Hotel and takes a job at Nate Chastain’s book shop, intending to make a new life for herself.
But a chance meeting with Griff Rutledge, a newcomer to Hickory Ridge, changes everything.
It will take a leap of faith on both their parts to redeem the hurts of the past and claim God’s promise of beauty for ashes.
Small town scandal. International terrorist attack. Who among them is the traitor?
Sara and Beth have built a multi-million dollar business together, but their once solid friendship is now strained. Beth is leery of Sara’s husband, and when he is kidnapped, authorities consider Beth their prime suspect.
Then, their small town of Seagrove Village is rocked by an act of terrorism, and Beth doesn’t know who to trust. Someone she knows is linked to the attack, but who? Is there a connection to Crossroads Crisis Center? In the midst of the confusion and fear, Beth finds herself attracted to a man from her past. She knows she shouldn’t fall in love with him, but she can’t resist or even explain their bond. As her world unravels around her, she wonders, is it possible to be beyond redemption?
To escape a scheme to marry her off to a dishonorable man, Margaret Macy flees London disguised as a housemaid. If she can remain unwed until her next birthday, she will receive an inheritance, and with it, sweet independence. But she never planned on actually working as a servant. And certainly not in the home of Nathaniel and Lewis Upchurch--both former suitors.
As she fumbles through the first real work of her life, Margaret struggles to keep her identity secret when suspicions arise and prying eyes visit Fairbourne Hall. Can she avoid a trap meant to force her from hiding?
Brimming with romance and danger, The Maid of Fairbourne Hall takes readers inside the fascinating belowstairs world of a 19th-century English manor, where appearances can be deceiving.

I know, Sharon! I may not surface for a long time ;)
ReplyDeleteGlad you got some great books to read this week, Anne! I just finished reading Julie Lessman's A Heart Revealed and also the four novella series Highland Crossings, both of which were excellent!!! But to read them I was not in my happy place - I was in my RA flareup painful place. But God used that for good! Now I have my reviews pretty well done, too. Blessings!
ReplyDeleteI just Beauty for Ashes today as well. I am still waiting on Not this Time, hopefully soon. You will love Maid of Fairborne Hall, it was so amazing, it was in my top 10 books for 2011 since I was lucky and got it towards the end of the December from the author! What I am reading now? Well I am reading Gone to Ground by Brandilyn Collins and it is great, but there is a huge stack of books saying 'read me' that I will be busy for the next many years! Happy Reading!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI haven't gotten to my Julie Lessman book yet. It will have to wait until I get my "official" review books done :) Sometimes I feel too bad to read and that is always a bummer :( I'm glad you were able to still be productive despite your pain! You are such an inspiration to me!!!
ReplyDeleteI have a pretty large stack of books too. It’s kind of intimidating some days! I haven’t read any of Brandilyn’s books but hear they are excellent. I’ll look forward to your review :)
ReplyDeleteI love getting books in the mail! I'm waiting for "A Lasting Impression" by Tamera Alexander, which I won online and can't wait to read! I'm also looking forward to reading "The Maid of Fairbourne Hall" soon. I love Julie's books!
ReplyDeleteHappy Reading!
Cathy :)
Lucky! I haven't gotten any of my books yet. :(
ReplyDeleteHurry up and read Maid of Fairbourne Hall so I can read it! :)
P.S. in order to post a comment, I have to answer a security question...it's a math problem. Just forewarning you, I may not comment often. :P
I was kind of overloaded in one week but it's all good :)
ReplyDeleteI'm going to start with Maid so as soon as you get The Rose of Winslow Street you'd better get busy reading, then we'll switch ;)
Yes, well...these math problems are easy, just for you ;) The recapcha was too hard to decipher the letters with all the swirly in the background :/
Julie's are among my favorites! This one is huge!!! It may take me a while to finish :) I haven't read A Lasting Impression yet. Got it from the library but then all these books came so it's not looking like I'll read that one yet :/
ReplyDeleteThanks for coming by!
Heres what I got in the mail Maid of Fairbourne Hall, The Rose of Winslow Street, Beyond All Measure, Beauty for Ashes, Blue Moon Promise,The Shadowed Mind, Pieces of Light, The Sweet By & By, Softly & Tenderly.

Wow Patricia! You may not surface for months ;)
ReplyDeleteI love Colleen's books and will be on the lookout for this new one. Enjoy and I look forward to reading your reviews!
So you think getting 3 books in a week is a lot...I just got 5 books today in the mail...it looked like Christmas at my front door. I got The Captive Heart by Dale Cramer, Prize of My Heart by Lisa Norato, Far from Here by Nicole Baart, Sarai by Jiill Eileen Smith and Blue Moon Promise by Colleen Coble. I may not see the light of day for a very very long time!
ReplyDelete5 books is awesome but it’s a little intimidating to me. Every time I get an influx of books something happens and I get behind on my reading! I know you’ll be in a happy place :)
ReplyDeleteIt is very intimidating. Though it is a blast getting to open them all.Getting the mail is such an adventure since I never have any idea what might be waiting for me.
