This is vintage Edwin Knowles Sweetheart Rose China, rimmed in 22kt gold. From what I can find on the internet, it is from the 1940's. I bought all the pieces the lady had. They were obviously sitting in the weather for a long time, as they were filthy and the cups and bowls were holding dirty water.
I carefully wrapped the cups in my leather jacket to protect against breakage, and the lady gave me a nasty looking box to put the plates, saucers and platter in. Yep. It was gross and I did not take pictures. But my husband was such a sweetie. He just put that box right in the back of his baby :)
Once I got them home, I filled the sink with hot water, mild detergent and a little bleach (to satisfy my germaphobia). Let them soak for about 20 minutes, gently washed off the grime and lovingly dried them off to reveal these beautiful pieces of china!
There are 4 dinner plates, 4 teacups, 2 teacup saucers, 2 bread saucers, 2 cereal bowls and a small serving platter. You might be asking, does this match a set I already have? Nope. I just inherited my mother's love of delicate china. When I see a piece I can afford, I buy it. And I ♥ teacups!
This lovely sugar bowl made in Bavaria doesn't match the set but I couldn't resist! Isn't it gorgeous?!
Do you have a china fettish? A favorite pattern? Something special you collect? Do tell!
I linked up to Teacup Tuesday .
Yes, I see the love of beautiful china gene lives on in both daughters. Love your new china! So pretty!! Love the little sugar bowl too (you know, I collect those as well as creamers...hint hint!).
ReplyDeleteYou are not getting my sugar bowl, sweet sister ;) But I will keep in mind that you collect them when I am out thrift shopping!
DeleteBeautiful china!

ReplyDeleteThey really have a priceless vintage look. I am happy for you!
I too have a hard time resisting any china...If I hadn't of moved so many times in my life and had to pare down, I would have a housefull by now!
Thank you so much for joining in Tea Cup Tuesday, I have enjoyed my visit: )
Hugs,
Terri
Hey Terri, I just fell in love with it when I saw it :) So perfectly delicate and sweet! It's old and crackled but that just add to the vintage charm.
DeleteWhat a great treasure you found! What a sweet post.
ReplyDeleteI DO have a china fetish, absolutely. Love to meet a fellow china obsessed blogger anytime, haha.
My fav is pastel delicate Bavarian or Austrian tea china. I have had to slow down over the years.........I try to use mine often, but I have way too much, I know I do.
It is sad your china was so neglected - but then hopefully you got it for a steal - and I love you will now care for and treasure it as it was meant to be loved.
Happy Tea Teusday!
Michele, I most definitely got it for a steal! $5.00 for all of it :) You gotta ♥ yard sales!
DeleteSo pretty!I love going to yard sales because you never know what you will find:)
ReplyDeleteI love yard sales! Even more...thrift stores :)
DeleteDon't you love when you run across a sale! Great find.
ReplyDeleteBristol
I'm always up for a good find, especially if it's china :) Thanks for stopping by, Luci!
DeleteBeautiful china, Anne. The pattern is so pretty and it makes it even better that you went out hunting and had the good eye to spot a treasure under the grime of neglect.
ReplyDeleteHi Ann, Thanks for taking time to come by and leave a comment. I appreciate it! I'm happy with my find :) Have a great weekend!
DeleteOhhhh wow!!! Absolutely beautiful! Lucky you!!!
ReplyDeleteI think we share the same addiction :-) My grandparents raised me, and Grandma had a large and gorgeous collection of tea cups/saucers and china. It was a very special thing to hold Grandma's hand, walk to the china cabinet, and get to pick out my "special tea-cup of the week" each week.
So, now I collect them as they hold such special meaning and memories. My only problem is I don't own a china cabinet, so I don't know where to put it all ;-)
I know what you mean. I need a cabinet again. I've been combing the thrift stores and found several more pretty sets...I'm doomed :)
