What Pro-Life Really Means | Evangelicals for Life

EFL Button

Even if you're not heading to Washington, D.C., January 21–22 for the March for Life event, block out some time those two days because you'll be able to attend some of the events in the comfort of your own home. Focus on the Family and The Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission will host Evangelicals for Life, a major pro-life conference held in conjunction with the March for Life event.

The event will take place in Washington, D.C., at the Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill. Evangelicals from across the country will gather to hear from leading speakers, such as David Platt, Russell Moore, Jim Daly, Kelly Rosati, and others—to be equipped and encouraged to become a voice for life! The event will also be simulcast for FREE so individuals, churches, and organizations from coast-to-coast and around the world can take part.

Speakers will encourage evangelicals to engage the culture on issues of abortion and end-of-life decisions, and the event will affirm the evangelical belief in the sanctity of life, that every life matters to God and is created in His image.

What Pro-Life Really Means

By Daniel Darling

It was a flippant comment by the spokesmen for a presidential candidate: “It doesn’t matter. They’re just Muslims.” But it made shudder.

This is how societies begin to dehumanize a people group, and every generation of Christians is responsible to face this thinking and fight it. This is what it means to be a pro-life champion.

We are pro-life because we are pro-human dignity. It is the uniquely Christian message that sees in every soul a person created in the image of God.

When Planned Parenthood and their allies say, “That’s just a fetus,” we say, “No, that’s a baby, a human life, that deserves dignity and respect.”

When corrupt profiteers look at vulnerable young girls and boys and say, “They are just a commodity to be trafficked for money,” we say, “No, they are boys and girls created in the image of God and deserving of dignity and respect.”

When eugenicists look at the elderly and say, “They are just burdens to be managed,” we say, “No, human dignity is not defined by utility, but is a unique gift given by God.”

When politicians look at immigrants and say, “They are a drain on society,” we say, “No, they are created in the image of God and worthy of kindness, welcoming, and respect.”

When ISIS brutally dehumanizes its victims—Christians, Muslims, Jews, and anyone who doesn’t subscribe to their ideology—and they say, “They are just infidels,” we say, by our acts of justice, “No, they are people created in the image of God and worthy of life and respect.”

When the disabled are marginalized, we say, “No, each was created in the image of God and is worthy of our full love and acceptance.”

Even in our discourse, even when we look across the aisle, across the screen, across the table at someone who doesn’t share our beliefs, we say to ourselves, “This person is worthy of respect and dignity because they too were created in the image of God.”

Human dignity, the intrinsic worth of every human soul, is not just a once-every-four-years mantra for voter guides and political scorecards. We live out the imago de as a way of life, and we seek justice wherever human dignity is compromised.

This is why ERLC and Focus on the Family join hands to help raise up a new generation of evangelicals who are passionate about the sanctity of human life. This why you should come to Washington, D.C., this January to the Evangelicals for Life event or participate via the free simulcast at your church or on your computer.

You should join Evangelicals for Life, not simply to make a powerful stand in the nation’s capital. You should come, not simply to be stirred by the gifted speakers. You should come, not only to fellowship and strategize with other champions for life.

You should be a part of of Evangelicals for Life because God is calling you, in this time and in your sphere of influence, to be a voice for human dignity.

Answer for yourself what it means to have a pro-life, whole-life vision. Discover where your gifts and talents best serve the kingdom of God in this way, and send a message to the world that your Christianity compels you to look every human being in the eye and not see what everyone sees. You see in them the image of their Creator.

He is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He and his wife Angela have four children and reside in the Nashville area. They attend Green Hill Church in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, where Dan serves as Pastor of Teaching and Discipleship.

Review -Raptor 6 by Ronie Kendig

Captain Dean Watters keeps his mission and his team in the forefront of his laser-like focus. So when Dean’s mission and team are threatened, his Special Forces training kicks into high gear. Failing to stop hackers from stealing national security secrets from the military’s secure computers and networks isn’t an option. Zahrah Zarrick is a missionary teacher to Afghan children in Mazar-e Sharif. And a target. When Zahrah is captured because of her expertise in quantum cryptology, compromising the US military, Dean is forced to crack the lockbox around his heart—a move that might come at the highest cost.

My Review

Dean Watters is a phenomenal leader, warrior, soldier; a man with a past. He has been through hell and back, seeing death up close and personal. His strength and stamina are amazing, both physical and mental.

Zahrah Zarrick is a woman of strong Christian faith, teaching young Afghani girls in her mother’s home country of Afghanistan. Amidst a war torn country and age old traditions, she is a beacon of hope for those she teaches.

I’m not sure how to describe this book. It’s one of those that has so many layers, once they’re peeled back, more and more appear. It is full of intensely gritty scenes that even though I found difficult to read, I couldn’t stop reading. The prose is mind-blowing  and held me hostage from the first page to the last. The intensity of emotion in Raptor 6 tops every one of this author’s other books.

Every. single. one.

There are some difficult scenes to read. It’s a war zone, after all. Terrorists commit horrific crimes. Dean and Zarrah are thrown together in dreadful circumstances. He relies on his own strength. She relies on her undefeatable faith in God; in His sovereignty over all situations. There’s a real battle going on and it’s not just on the ground but in the heart. And no one shows the struggles and victories these brave men and women go through better than Ronie Kendig. There’s a reason her tagline is Rapid-Fire fiction, and Raptor 6 showcases it to the extreme.

I'm eagerly awaiting the next two books in the series.

Thank you, Barbour Publishing and Litfuse Publicity, for sending me a copy to review. No compensation has been received. Only my honest opinion of the book was required.

My Review

We all want a happy family, right? If your family is struggling with time management issues, communication, or any number of things, then you might want to have a look at this book. There are some good and practical ideas in here, including job charts for the children, how to carve out family meal time, family meetings, etc., which are all good things. The author gives examples of various business models and how to modify them to work in the home.  If you would like to try something similar, then this book is one you should read.

For me personally, I don't feel like they are some kind of secret on how to have a happy family, though. There seemed to be a lot of emphasis put on ‘doing it right’, too. After 30 years of parenting, I’m not sure there’s any right way or wrong way for a family to do some of the things mentioned in this book.

Overall, there are helpful tips to be gained from reading the book but as in any how-to manual, you take what you can personally use and discard the rest.

I appreciate Litfuse & Thomas Nelson for providing me an ebook for review purposes. I was not required to write a positive review, just my opinion of the book, which I have done. The blog tour schedule can be found here

Book Blurb

They can buy anything they want—fame, power, beauty, even loyalty.

But they can’t buy love.

The beautiful and wealthy heiress daughters of August Price can buy everything their hearts desire. But what if their    desire is to be loved, without an enormous price tag attached? When one sister betrays another for the sake of love, will    she find happiness? And what happens when the other sets out across the still untamed frontier to find it—will she  discover she’s left it behind in the glamorous world of the New York gilded society? What price will each woman pay for  being an heiress?

Set in the opulent world of the Gilded Age, two women discover that being an heiress just might cost them everything  they love.

My Thoughts

I confess. I love book covers. This one is stunning!

I've read many of Susan's books but until I read Heiress I had no idea she could take me in two different directions so skillfully. Most times, when reading a book, you get one heroine in one locale, but in Heiress you get two heroines in two locales, and it is NEVER confusing!

Esme & Jinx are quite the sisters. Fiercely independent, Esme wishes to marry for love. Traditional to the core, Jinx wishes to marry for socially acceptable reasons thinking she will be loved. These poor girls. I felt so sorry for them. At times, the pressure to be the perfect daughter seemed so overwhelming, and it certainly shaped how they felt towards one another and others. Obviously, the times were different and daughters had tremendous obligations to their families to marry well, often times "saving" the family from ruin. But I must say, with as many books as I've read set from the Regency to Gilded Era, this one makes me glad I wasn't living in those times. Nope. No thank you.

Susan is a master at portraying the opulence and grandeur. I could see the gorgeous ball gowns, sparkling dog collars, and those handsome men in their fancy waistcoats. She's also a master at portraying the deceit, jealousy, and manipulation that took place behind closed doors. Whew! I'll stick to reading books.

Not a spoiler but if you're squeamish about infidelity and abuse, I wouldn't recommend this one.  It's not graphic but the subjects are covered.

Thank you to the publisher and Litfuse for my review copy. This is my honest opinion.
