It's a literal fight all summer!
Swatting at them, running from them...
While this fella might not seem daunting, in actuality he is about
1 1/2 inches long! And he bites!!!
Hence the graininess of the photo
because I zoomed from far away to get the shot.
We have to contend with these buggers all summer.
We call them honkin' horse flies out here in the country J
In case you've never heard of one, you can read more about them here: http://www.uri.edu/ce/factsheets/sheets/deerhorseflies.html
Do you have any pesky summer bugs besides mosquitos?
Which I can see absolutely no use for, by the way.

Fabulous macro!
ReplyDeleteYes, the gnats and spiders are extremely annoying to us this year!
Thanks for visiting and commenting on my RBH post.

I don't like them!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness Anne! What a shot! We have those honkers (didn't know they were called that until now) down in the country. They especially like dark hair and you will find us diving head first under the water as they attack us on the river. Our lab Cocoa really had a run for his money when it came to those guys. When they are around, it makes me glad I'm not a horse! Your posts are always so fun!
ReplyDeleteHugs Anne,
Kelly
Great shot! I'm wanting to run just looking at it, ha!
ReplyDeleteYes ~ those chiggers!!! They wait on the edge of the lawn and say, "Wait, wait... here she comes!" Kathleen
ReplyDeleteI can appreciate the disdain for these creatures, my father used to drag us North to HF country every summer and we'd always nurse a bite or two or three...you've actually showed his beautiful side...super photo.
ReplyDeleteOh I hate horse flies!
ReplyDeleteAnne, your photo is stupendous! :) We have horse flies too, and yes, they are awful! Have a great weekend. Hugs to you!
ReplyDeleteI remember contending with those as a kid....now we've moved away from their domain. Great shot! My Rurality: http://lauriekazmierczak.com/pommel/
ReplyDeleteYikes! Wow you got a great shot of this "horse-fly" . It looks pretty creepy.
ReplyDeleteGreat shot of an ugly creature. Their bites do hurt!
