Friend or Foe?! ~ Rural Thursday

My son was mowing and just had to come and get me so I could snap a picture of this big guy.

He was at least 4 1/2 ft long.
No lie!

But as I am always complaining about my camera, you can't really see him all that well.
Plus the clover/grass is pretty thick.

But you get the idea. I do believe he is a friend and not a foe, as he is either a Black Rat Snake or a Racer.
I'm leaning to Racer as he was fast!

Nice looking fella'

Images are mine. Please don't take them without asking. Not that anyone would want them. I'm just sayin'.

I'm linked with Rural Thursday.

  1. i was leaning on rat snake as he's so long! do racers get that long? i haven't seen any black snakes in the yard yet this summer but have seen lots of them smooshed on the road. i think it's going to be a snakey summer.

  3. I like snakes. We don't have this type around here. Nice to see him in all his shiny glory.

    1. Yes, it can be fearful but he is a good one :) We did find some baby copperheads once. Now that is scary because where there are babies, there is a MAMA!

  5. Ugh, what is it with snakes today? I've been out in the yard most of the day and have seen two in my yard and garden! And now my newest follower is blogging about one, eeeek! Can you tell I am not a fan of snakes! Glad yours isn't dangerous either! Just freaky! Thanks for stopping by Sall's Country Life. I'd love to sit down and chat over some coffee can I use your cute rooster cup? Have a great day!

  7. I went to a blogging conference and got behind on Rural Thursday this time around! Sorry about that. Definitely friend for the black snake :-)

  8. Snakes are our friends as long as they aren't poisonous. We have several BIG black snakes that run through our yard, that's fine, except when they get near the front door. That's freaky.

  9. A friend as long as he is "over there" and not under my feet. :)
